What is News Media Source?

News Media Source is a new comprehensive way for all news services to receive photos and video of current news events in our local area.  This allows those agencies to pick and choose from a larger pool of media not currently available to them. 

Do I need any more than a free account to gain access to News Media Source?

No, a free account is all you need at this time!

What format are the photos and video in?
All News Media Source photos are in JPG format and videos are in 740x480 .avi commpressed in DV NTSC format downloaded as a zip file.

How long are the news media videos?
All News Media Source videos are approximately fifteen to thirty seconds long.

Do you add photos on a regular basis?
Yes. We add photos within minutes of them being taken. Click on "Newest Photos" to see the latest photos that we have posted.  If you are on our mailing list, you will be emailed moments after our pictures are uploaded. If you would like to be on the list, simply contact us and let us know.  We also offer a RSS feed.

I'm with a news agency, when I buy a photo or video will other news agencies be able to purchase the same one I bought?
Yes, once a news agency purchases a media file we are notified instantly at which time we will mark it non-active, it will no longer be available for sale, but, in the interim it could be bought by another.  We will soon be adding the ability for "first come first served" in the very near future.

Can I submit photos to sell?
Yes, only if you are a news photographer or a first responder, otherwise we only allow uploads from our in-house photographers. If you belong to the Police, Fire or any other emergency service click on the "Contact Us" button at the top of the main page and we'll see what we can do about adding your shots.

Do you offer refunds?
No, once your purchase is made we cannot offer a refund. The reason for this policy is because we offer full access to our entire digital collection of photos and, as such, there is no way for our products to be returned.

Are there any restrictions on my use of the News Media Source photos and videos that I download?
Yes. While News Media Source offers great freedoms and a wide ranges of uses, we do not allow the redistribution of our photos/videos, or allow the use of our photos within products that are mass distributed in any type of archive format.  Also click here see Licensing.

Is account sharing allowed?
No, sharing an account is no different than distributing our materials to others. Individual accounts must be made by your friends and colleagues, the accounts are free.
